“With her unusual virtuosity and a significant outward musical temperament, pianist Tanja Zapolski has, within a few years, marked herself as one of the most exciting names among Danish pianists.” - Kristeligt Dagblad Tanja Zapolski is one of Denmark’s prominent classical pianists, astonishing audiences both in Denmark and internationally with solo concerts and chamber music alongside some of the world’s finest musicians. Tanja has Ukrainian roots and made her debut as a soloist with an orchestra at the age of 8. She moved to Denmark with her family from Ukraine at the age of 12 and was admitted to The Royal Danish Academy of Music at 15, where she studied under Professor Anne Øland and Amalie Malling. She graduated from the soloist class at the RDAM in 2008 under Amalie Malling and at the Anton Rubinstein Academy under Dina Yoffe in Düsseldorf. Tanja has performed as a soloist with, among others, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil, the Royal Danish Orchestra, as well as the Oslo, Helsingborg, Odense, Aarhus, and South Jutland Symphony Orchestras, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. She performed Hans Abrahamsen’s Double Concerto for Piano and Violin with the Royal Danish Orchestra under the baton of the world-renowned conductor Sir Simon Rattle and will be recording the Double Concerto in 2025. Tanja’s very open-minded and exploratory approach has led her to perform at the Roskilde Festival, jazz festivals, participate in countless theater performances, record film music, travel the world with several of her music groups, record CDs, and music videos both with her chamber music groups and as a soloist - most recently her album “Timeless,” which she recorded together with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Tanja’s repertoire spans broadly from the Baroque, Viennese classicism, romantic music to new composition music, pop, and electronic music. Tanja has a penchant for minimalist music and has performed alongside the legendary world-famous composer Philip Glass, where they together performed his music at the European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017. Tanja has been named “Name of the Week” on P2, her CDs “Album of the Week” on P2, and has been nominated for GAFFA Awards and the P2 Prize. She has been awarded several prizes in Danish and international competitions, including 1st Prize in the Scandinavian music competition Nordic Talent in Oslo, The International Competition for Young Performers, Steinway & Sons Piano competitions, Greta Erikson’s Nordic Piano Competition. Among her honors, she has received the Jacob Gade Major Grant, the Victor Borge Prize, the Danish Freemason’s Prize, the Sonning Scholarship, the Gladsaxe Music Prize, and the Wilhelm Hansen Prize. In 2019, Tanja was inducted into Kraks Blå Bog, Denmark’s equivalent of “Who’s Who.” She frequently appears on television, including in “The Classical Music Quiz,” and often serves as a jury member in music competitions.
